Phoenix Suns media day ahead of the 2026-27 season is almost upon us, so to get yourself primed ahead of basketball returns, here are the three best summer moves made by the franchise.
Collin Gillespie/Jordan Goodwin being brought back
The Suns wasted no time bringing point guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin back on team-friendly deals in what was a brilliant piece of business by the front office. Both look like they can push Jalen Green for his starting spot, while Goodwin excels no matter who he plays with.
Gillespie, in particular, has come to personify the Suns and their scrappy style of play alongside Dillon Brooks, while Goodwin can defend multiple positions and is one of the most underrated backcourt players in the league today.
Getting the duo to sign at the right price (four years, $48 million for Gillespie and three years, $19 million for Goodwin) ensured the franchise got two of their top eight guys back in the rotation. Both can be easily moved down the road if required, but the reality is they are crucial to the Suns' chances of winning games this coming season.
Dillon Brooks contract extension
The Suns clearly believe that they can improve on the 45 wins and surprise playoff appearance of last season with the core already in place, so extending Brooks was a no-brainer. Three years, $73 million is great value, particularly for the soul of your team.
He is the second-best player on this roster and stepped up when Devin Booker was struggling multiple times last season. He is a two-way menace and loves to wind up opponents, and losing Brooks at this point would have been unthinkable.
His defensive versatility allows the Suns to use different lineups to attack opponents, while there is a good chance he can eclipse his career-high of 20.2 points per game from a season ago. Their most important piece of business was this.
Luke Kennard brought to Phoenix at a steal
Adding a player in Kennard, who led the entire league in 3-point shooting last season, is one thing, although that alone is not as impressive or important as bringing back the trio of players already listed.
But being able to nab him at $6.5 million for the next two seasons is superb value and gives the Suns somebody who can stretch the floor each night (at least that is the hope). Kennard won't start, and he's not a like-for-like swap with Grayson Allen, as he is not as good a secondary creator or defender.
For the Suns to beat out other teams to his signature at a price they could afford as they once again approach the second apron is brilliant business and gives them another key veteran rotation player to help them win games.
